The majority of students who enroll in MBA programs have to find internships in order to gain experience in their field of study. This can mean that potential internships can be extremely competitive, especially the ones that are heavily desired because they could lead to a permanent position within the company.
However, there can be bad experiences with an MBA internship, according to BusinessWeek. Because of the economic recession, many companies have cut their internship programs.
"The number of offers at the end of the summer is shrinking, because companies don't know their hiring needs, and so they're very conservative," Roxanne Hori, a director of career management at an MBA program, told the news provider.
However, there are ways that MBAs can make the most out of their internship experiences, even if the position is not what they dreamed of once they're in the work environment.
The news source reports that asking the supervisor for an evaluation can help the intern learn how they're doing and what they can do to improve.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, MBAs have a higher chance of employment compared to those with bachelor degrees.
